James Albert Harsin
Indian Valley resident James Albert Harsin peacefully passed from
this life Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Enloe Community Hospital in Chico.
Born 83 years ago to the late Issac and Alma (Mulligan) Harsin in
Wise's Landing, Ky., Jim was raised and educated in Kentucky. Jim
left Kentucky and moved west to California at 17 to join the Navy.
Health reasons prevented him from enlisting so he went to work as a
civil employee for the Navy at Pt. Hueneme Naval Base for a period of
time before moving to northern California. Jim lived in Redding
before settling in Greenville. Where he lived for over 20 years.
Health concerns required him to relocate to Chico two years ago. Jim
was employed in the lumber industry for most of his adult life and
was a longtime member of the Lumber and Industrial Workers Union
Local 3074. His passion in life was motorcycles; he rode Harleys
before it was the popular thing to do and found great pleasure
touring throughout the country on his bike. He enjoyed the outdoors -
hunting and fishing. In his youth, Jim was an accomplished swimmer.
As a young man, he was one of very few who could swim across the Ohio
River and return in a swift current. In passing, Jim leaves his son
Jerry of Chico; daughters Candy Grimm of Yuba City and Debbie Witt of
Spring City, Tenn.; sisters Teresa Taddei of Greenville, Bonnie Cano
of Portola, Norma Belle Kyle of Redding and Evelyn Dutton of Chico;
three loving grandchildren, Tony, James and Sandy, and 11 great-
grandchildren. Viewing and visitation took place Jan. 2, followed by
a celebration of Jim's life. Interment followed at Greenville
District Cemetery. An opportunity to express condolences and sign the
memorial guest register is available online at fehrmanmortuary.com.
The family suggest any remembrances in Jim's memory be made to the
Roundhouse Council, c/o Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, P.O. Box 803,
Greenville, CA 95947.
