Myrtle E. (nee Gruenewald) Harsin

From Obituary in the Pierre Capital Journal:


"Services for Myrtle Harsin, 72, of Blunt, SD, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 7, 1984, at the United Methodist Church in Blunt with Rev. Richard Gould officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Blunt.


Visitation is today (Tuesday) from 3-9 p.m. at Feigum-Hall Funeral Home with a prayer service set for 8 p.m. A memorial has been established. 


Myrtle Estella Harsin was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Manchester, SD, to William and Lillian (Bronson) Gruenewald. She died Nov 4, 1984, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.


She lived with her family in Blunt where she attended school. On April 20, 1928, she married Henry Lewis Harsin in Steele, ND. They lived in Steele and Akron, IA, then moved to Blunt in 1931, where they operated Harsin Mobil Service. In 1949 she started in the cafe business. She operated Myrt's Cafe and later the Chuck Wagon Cafe for 35 years, She was a member of the Blunt Senior Citizens and the South Dakota Restaurant Association. In 1981 she was given the Blunt Small Businessperson of the Year Award. She retired in January of 1984.


Survivors include three sons, Cecil Lewis of Gregory, Calvin Eugene of Blunt and Charles Alvin of Ogden, UT; one daughter, Mrs. Leland "Herb" (Marjorie) Worl of Honeyville, UT; one brother, Louis Gruenewald of Bronx, NY; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. 


She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, a brother, Edward A. Gruenewald, and her parents, Wiliam J. Gruenewald and Lillian Bronson Gruenewald Callahan."
